introduction:
Imagine that your family life is like a journey through a picturesque alpine meadow with beautiful lakes, streams, wildflowers, multiple trails, and a beautiful summit that you desire to reach. Family life can represent that journey with various intersecting trails representing various life situations and seasons. Everyone realizes the importance of family but so many of us struggle to get on the right path, stay on the path, and reach the summit.

Every local church appreciates the importance of family, and also understands the challenges experienced by families. The family is the primary place of community for transmitting the transforming truth of God. Successful families create thriving larger communities. On the other hand, struggling families adversely impact community. The problem: today many professing Christian families struggle just like those who claim no relationship with God. The divorce rate, within and outside the church, are essentially the same. Undeniably, the children of divorce suffer repercussion.

the solution:
this family nexus ministry allows the local church to offer a church-wide comprehensive program of resources for people to connect with God in relationships, marriage, and parenting. Thus, multitudes are able to get on God’s path, are equipped to stay on that path, and reach the summit and experience God’s blessings in the context of family.

the goal: Family nexus is the connection of family members with God and one another as God intended, so they experience God’s blessings together.

objectives: what we hope to provide and accomplish together
to provide resources for relationships, marriage, and parenting to guide people how to get on and stay on the path to a healthy and successful family experience in Christ.

to utilize a church-wide, comprehensive, family ministry to help regularly communicate the need to prioritize God and family, and the importance of spending time together in relationships.

encourage and equip parents that it is primarily their responsibility to: maintain a healthy marriage, mentor [disciple] their children, and the church is here to support them.

methods: how we plan on working together

A. we want everyone to participate: we’ll create a culture where all attendees of the local church are strongly encouraged to invest 1-2 hours per week for a year to transform their personal and family life experience for eternity. This will be a church-wide initiative.

B. the topics offered: each of the topics relate to relationships, marriage, or parenting issues. People will develop friendships and accountability in the context of groups as they take advantage of resources to equip for the following family life mileposts:
1.    how to do relationships God’s way: friendships, courting vs. dating, engagement
2.    a blueprint for God’s design for marriage
3.    staying committed and overcoming obstacles
4.    growing through divorce
5.    blended families
6.    foundations of parenting God’s way
7.    the role of a father
8.    guiding preschoolers
9.    leading elementary age
10.  leading teen age
11.  single parents
12.  education options
13.  parents with adult children
14.  honoring and caring for adult parents
15.  finances God’s way
16.  celebrate recovery – freedom from hurts, hang-ups, & habits
17.  grief share
18.  God's heart for the orphan and the role of the family

C. the schedule of classes: each family life topic will be offered for three consecutive eight week sessions lasting about six months. Each participant will select a topic from the list of classes for each session. For example, a couple may choose to attend a class, “a blueprint for God’s design for marriage” in session one; then “foundations of parenting God’s way” in session two; and sign-up for “leading teen age” in session three.

1. venue choices: topics shall be offered in the context of community groups at homes, or classes at the local church. The venue choices may be impacted by the number of attendees projected to attend a topic, space availability, and the philosophy of ministry of each local church.

2. sample schedule: the attached schedule helps to see how the topics are offered and potential venue choices in each of the three sessions [see below for the Session 3 schedule].

D. how to sustain what you’ve learned after completing three sessions [topics]:
each participant is strongly encouraged to become active in an ongoing community group for at least the remainder of the twelve months. The community group might include, but is not limited to, family life themes. Community groups allow us to experience life together, and enhance the likelihood of participants retaining and applying what they have learned.

E. what about pre-existing community groups?
Some groups will become a place where a particular topic is taught. Other groups will focus on studying selected resources from the attached bibliography that focus on the themes of relationships, marriage or parenting. Groups are likely to experience a change in participants as some members attend various specific sessions for about six months. Pre-existing group leaders shall coordinate with their overseer.
